Prof. M. S. Swaminathan

Prof. M. S. Swaminathan (1925–2023) is recognized as the architect of India's Green Revolution. As a pioneering geneticist, he guided India from food shortages to self-sufficiency. He directed major institutions including the Indian Agricultural Research Institute and the International Rice Research Institute, and led the National Commission on Farmers, championing smallholder farmer advancement.

He established the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation to advance sustainable agriculture and rural development. His honors include the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, World Food Prize, and Ramon Magsaysay Award. His legacy combines science, sustainability, and social equity.

How You Engage in the Centre of Excellence

Students from public health, environmental science, data science, AI, design, agriculture, policy, global affairs, and social sciences will work on shared field problems within a unified framework.
