Prof. M. S. Swaminathan (1925–2023), revered as the Father of India’s Green Revolution, was a pioneering geneticist whose work transformed India from food scarcity to self-sufficiency. 

He led premier institutions such as the Indian Agricultural Research Institute and the International Rice Research Institute, and chaired the National Commission on Farmers, championing policies that uplifted smallholder farmers. As founder of the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, he advanced sustainable agriculture and rural development with a strong focus on science serving society.

A global icon of agricultural innovation, he was honoured with the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, World Food Prize, Ramon Magsaysay Award, and many other international accolades. His legacy continues to inspire a future where science, sustainability, and social equity move hand in hand.
