WPU GŌA
Bachelor of Management Studies (Hons.) at WPU GŌA

Bachelor of Management Studies (Hons.)

How do managers lead organisations in a world shaped by technological disruption, global interdependence, and shifting human priorities?

What skills must future leaders develop to navigate complexity, design resilient systems, and inspire meaningful change?

And who will shape the next generation of organisations that are innovative, ethical, responsible, sustainable, and inclusive?

The Bachelor of Management Studies (Hons.) at WPU GŌA prepares students to lead in a world where businesses operate as complex and interconnected systems influenced by culture, technology, economics, human behaviour, and global markets. It is a four-year undergraduate programme for intellectually ambitious students who aspire to lead businesses, build ventures, advise institutions, transform family enterprises, and shape the future of the global economy.

At WPU GŌA, management education begins not with formulas alone, but with first principles: how people decide, how systems function, how organisations grow, how societies prosper, and how leaders create trust in uncertain times. The programme blends core management education with systems thinking, behavioural science, communication, writing, design thinking, and data literacy. Students learn how organisations function not merely as economic entities, but as dynamic social and technological systems shaped by people, processes, policies, and global forces.

India's rapid transformation and the global demand for agile, ethical leaders have created unprecedented opportunities in digital transformation, fintech, clean tech, startups, and digital public infrastructure. This programme equips graduates to thrive in volatile, uncertain environments through rigorous analytical training and transdisciplinary fluency.

The Programme

The Bachelor of Management Sciences (Hons.) at WPU GŌA is a four-year undergraduate degree for students who aspire to understand business deeply and lead organisations responsibly. It is designed for a world where management is no longer confined to traditional corporate structures, but now extends across startups, digital platforms, family enterprises, consulting firms, global supply chains, social enterprises, and technology-enabled businesses.

The programme combines rigorous foundations in economics, finance, accounting, marketing, organisational behaviour, operations, analytics, entrepreneurship, and strategy with the broader capabilities demanded by contemporary leadership: communication, judgement, ethical reasoning, adaptability, and systems thinking.

Students begin by learning how markets function, how firms create value, and how decisions are made. They then progress into the functional disciplines of management before advancing into strategic thinking, leadership practice, innovation, and specialised pathways. Throughout the journey, academic learning is reinforced through projects, simulations, internships, immersions, research tasks, and a final capstone.

A defining strength of the programme is its dual-specialisation model. Every student develops depth through a Within-Domain Specialisation while also building breadth through a Cross Domain Specialisation. This enables graduates to combine business competence with complementary strengths such as technology management, design thinking, branding, customer experience, or innovation.

Graduates emerge prepared not only for employment, but for enterprise creation, institution building, family business transformation, and advanced study in India or abroad.

Programme Structure

1. Common Core (40 Credits)

Every WPU GŌA student, irrespective of major, completes a carefully designed 40-credit University Common Core forming the intellectual bedrock of the entire academic ecosystem and developing ten essential graduate attributes. The Common Core equips students with transversal skills transcending any single discipline. It creates shared intellectual language across engineers, designers, psychologists, and managers enabling effective collaboration on complex, real-world problems. It ensures every student graduates with strong critical thinking, ethical reasoning, communication fluency, data literacy, and systemic perspective — capabilities increasingly valued in leadership roles.

2. Business Management Foundation & Programme Core

This component delivers rigorous, comprehensive grounding in all foundational and functional areas of management, progressing logically from Year 1 to Year 3. The programme core builds strong disciplinary competence and functional mastery before students move into specialisations, ensuring graduates possess a solid management toolkit that is both conceptually deep and practically applicable.

3. Within-Domain Specialisation (Year 3 onwards)

Students select one specialisation track in Year 3 and complete advanced, domain-specific courses providing significant depth. The specialisation tracks enable students to develop specialised expertise preparing them for focused professional roles, entrepreneurship, or higher studies in their chosen area. Three available tracks:

  • Global Business and Entrepreneurship
  • Digital Economy and E-Commerce
  • Business Strategy and Systems Design

4. Directed Electives

These advanced elective courses offer flexibility to deepen knowledge within the chosen track or explore closely related topics. Examples include: Behavioural Economics for Managers, Sustainable Supply Chain Strategy, Corporate Governance & Compliance, Negotiation & Conflict Resolution, Social Impact Measurement, Family Business Management, and Advanced Financial Modelling. Directed electives allow customisation enabling students to tailor their degree according to specific career interests and strengths.

5. Cross-Domain Specialisation

In addition to primary business specialisation, every student completes one Cross-Domain Specialisation from another academic cluster (Engineering, Design, or Humanities). Curated options include:

  • Technology Management & AI Applications
  • Design Thinking, Product & Service Innovation
  • Digital Branding and Customer Experience

Students may also design a custom cross-domain pathway under faculty guidance. This pathway is a defining feature of WPU GŌA graduates and a critical requirement for solving complex, real-world problems. It fosters transdisciplinary fluency and inculcates the ability to integrate insights from multiple domains.

6. Capstone / Signature Work (Semester 8, 12 Credits)

The culminating experience is a full-semester, 12-credit Capstone Project in Semester 8. Students undertake a substantial, real-world integrative project which may be a strategy consulting assignment, startup venture launch, policy research dissertation, or organisational transformation project. The Capstone is mentored by a faculty–industry panel and requires students to synthesise knowledge from their Within-Domain specialisation, Cross-Domain specialisation, immersions, IIP, and core courses.

7. Experiential & Integrative Elements

To ensure every graduate has substantial real-world exposure, reflective practice, and the ability to translate theory into impactful action, learning extends far beyond classrooms through a rich ecosystem of experiential components:

  • Studio-Based Learning: At least one studio every semester — intensive, project-driven experiences focused on real organisational challenges.
  • Independent Inquiry Period (IIP): A four-week, credit-bearing, self-directed deep-dive after Semester 5.
  • Grand Challenge Studios & Transdisciplinary Projects: Collaborative work on university-wide societal challenges.
  • Continuous Digital Portfolio: A living record of projects, reflections, and achievements.
  • Mandatory Immersions: Global, national, rural, industry, trade shows, LTC, and Active Citizenship Programme (detailed in the Immersions section).

Programme Immersions

Immersion is a central pillar of the BMS programme, allowing students to connect classroom learning with real organisational contexts.

Year 1: Foundations and Early Exposure

Students engage in introductory field observations, business visits, and communication workshops that help them understand how teams operate and how customer-facing processes work. These early experiences build awareness of systems, processes, and workplace culture. Students participate in a two-week International Immersion. They work on a Mini Grand Challenge that builds interdisciplinary collaboration and early systems thinking. They also spend one week at the Life Transformation Centre (LTC) — developing their ethical lens, leadership skills, and reflective clarity — and undertake a Pune industrial visit to observe real-world business environments.

Year 2: Social Immersion and Community Understanding

In Year 2 students learn to connect their core discipline with society, behaviour, and complex systems. Students spend five days in rural Goa, transitioning from observation to active problem identification and project framing. The second semester features a domain-aligned trade show visit in the Asian region, combined with lectures at prominent regional institutions. The second year concludes with a two-month internship with an NGO, a social organisation, or an IAS officer.

Year 3: Industry Immersion and Managerial Practice

Students engage with organisations across sectors such as retail, tourism, banking, consulting, manufacturing, and digital services. Through industry projects, they study organisational dynamics, analyse business problems, and gain exposure to real-time management scenarios. The National Immersion at an IIM deepens exposure to cutting-edge management education. The Dubai trade show introduces them to global market trends and provides exposure to global business ecosystems. Their 12-week industry internship becomes the foundation for Grand Challenge Studio II, where they turn insights into proposals.

Year 4: Professional Internship or Advanced Industry Experience

Students undertake a professional internship or transdisciplinary Capstone project where they work directly with organisations or industries on strategic or operational projects. This final immersion informs the capstone project and shapes students as job-ready or venture-ready graduates.
